Q&A with BCC: Sample Collection Procedure

As part of our commitment to provide prompt and exceptional laboratory services, we reached out to the Bureau of Cannabis Control (BCC) to gain clarity on final product packaging regulations. Below is the exchange with the BCC that was granted for broad distribution to SC Labs clients.

Protocol for Collecting Samples

What is final form for prepacked harvest batches?

Allowed to be in any form of packaging since they can be repackaged.

What is final form for pre-rolls?

Packaged and labeled as it would sit in retail with exception of cannabinoid/terpenoid content. Cannot be loose even if from one strain.

What is final form for cartridges?

Packaged and labeled as it would sit in retail with exception of cannabinoid/terpenoid content. Cannot be loose.

How do we handle pre-roll packages that contain a variety of strains?

Not allowed.

What sample type is a tea bag?

Edible, but need confirmation from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

What sample type is a toothpick?

Edible, but need confirmation from CDPH.

Plan of enforcement?

Have been sending similar emails to all labs and distributors. You should inform our clients of the need for final packaged form.
