Botanacor Laboratories Offers Delta-8 Testing, Providing Hemp Producers With Legally Defensible Test Results in a Changing Regulatory Landscape
Delta-8’s Legality is a Gray Area of the Law. Hemp and Hemp-Derived Product Producers Can Protect Against Potential Liability by Knowing Exactly Which THC Molecules Their Products Contain
Denver – March 26, 2021 – Botanacor Laboratories, the widely recognized leader in accredited testing of hemp biomass and hemp-derived products, announced today that it is seeing an uptick in interest for its Delta-8 tests in hemp-derived concentrate samples.
As background, Delta-8 and Delta-9 are both tetrahydrocannabinols (THC). Delta-9 is a molecule that provides the psychoactive properties of marijuana. When the 2018 Farm Bill was passed, it legalized the growing and distribution of Cannabis sativa L., so long as it contained less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC. Since 2018, consumers have recognized that Delta-8 has some psychoactive properties and – without an explicit ruling from the DEA – products containing Delta-8 are now being marketed for their psychoactive properties, even where it remains illegal to sell or consume marijuana products.
Without taking a stance on legality, Botanacor urges Delta-8 concentrate manufacturers to work with a lab that is equipped to detect the presence of Delta-9 in production batches of Delta-8 concentrate. Every lab will produce a Certificate of Analysis which documents the results of the test. But only labs like Botanacor, which are supremely confident in their science, methods and staff will back up that data, in court if needed. Botanacor lab results can also help producers remediate Delta-9 from their product, before it is sold to a finished-products manufacturer. “Working with a reputable lab like Botanacor can independently quantify the two analytes, a prudent step to take given how quickly the legal landscape of Delta-8 could change,” said Dr. Craig, CEO of Botanacor Laboratories. “Hemp producers can be prepared to nimbly respond to the changing legal landscape only when they know exactly what cannabinoids are in their products.”
